Mr. Louis L. Horch, President

Roerich Museum,

310 Riverside Drive,

New York, N. Y.

My dear Mr. Horch:

It would seem that my every attempt to cooperate with your organization physically becomes side-tracked only to bear, perhaps, some mental or spiritual fruit. That this is to be my duty or my pleasure now seems more and more true. Especially recently I have been filled with inspirations, which may be valuable in the time to come.

I am aware of the terror that awaits New York City and perhaps the whole country and the whole of civilization unless something is done to enable you to continue your efforts. And while at this moment I reach only a comparatively few people, certain events in the last few days have brought much promise, and if those doors open I shall certainly bend every effort to interest people in the activities of the Roerich Foundation.

Three days ago I was very suddenly inspired to write to the Museum on four important matters, the first of which took form immediately, and which, in view of the news contained in the May-June bulletin, I am sending on. It is for the time being very confidential.

This paper on Cancer came to me from a very high source, which process I think you somewhat appreciate. The first instruction is to send it to you and ask for any suggestion, advice or criticism. Then I am to complete it, sending you a requisite number of copies, and it should, if satisfactory to your good selves, be forward to Professor and Mrs. Roerich.

It is not to be considered a personal work, any more than Agni Yoga or other compositions. While it would be in order to let Professor Roerich know it came through my hand, the paper and the knowledge it contains is for the Foundation at Urusvati, or Professor Roerich to use in any way he sees fit. Being of a more or less occult nature, I do not know how it would impress the scientific staff. It came to me in this form and I am passing it along, happy to be of any service in this or other matters.

With kindest regards,

National Representative,

Salutation to That Divine Being, the Goal of all the Yogins, and to those workers carrying His plan upon earth!

“Many observations can facilitate the structure of the future. But to affect this, one must realize that even mosquitoes know atmospheric conditions better than man. But people think that having the title of king of Nature, they have the right to know nothing.” (Agni Yoga I ,194.)

To portray the human chalice as filled with monsters and demons is at first hand to return to medieval darkness and superstition. What man does not know is not worth the gaining, and when he discovers it, it is always a conquest over Nature, never over his ignobility, never over his limitation, so that while Science may seem to move from discovery to discovery, from conquest to conquest, the ignobility and limitation remain, for with them man has not coped.

We read of Jesus ridding the body of bad spirits, evil breaths, diabolical obsessions and we accord it to the superstition of the times, to the fact that the unlearned writers of Scripture explained or explained away phenomena according to the common understanding or lack of understanding of the age. And when we further find that the Buddhists retain much knowledge of Garuda and other monsters, of entities and forms which sap the vitality of living bodies, we ascribe to their traditions the appellation of myth, as if this word, explained rather than described the content of the teachings.

The cancer patient is subject to disintegration within his body. This disintegration is physically related to the blood breath and humors; there is absence of proper elimination and a high degree of auto-intoxication and putrefaction. This putrefaction leads to the appearance of yeast-like bodies, vegetative in character which feed upon the moulds so created. These entities are psychical rather than physical, yet are able to project a physical from through the movement of destruction which takes place within, and therefore they seem to create a parasite structure, which grows and consumes the vital life force of the subject.

These entities feed upon the carbon dioxide gas which should be eliminated through the nostrils and the channels for food wastes. This carbon dioxide is thus decomposed, reproducing free oxygen within the body. This free oxygen then attacks the organism causing bio-chemical disequilibrium with resulting detrimental conditions in the blood stream and intestinal track.

Oxygen being created within the body, all of that gas drawn in through the nostrils is not used, there is a super abundance of it, it burns the living tissues, and the presence of any amount of carbon dioxide gas feeds the malignant growth within. Poisonous gases are formed, the body decomposes and all the food and energy one supplies only strengthen the cancer.

The terms cancer, carcinoma, not only signify a crab, but they describe a condition of the breath. This arises out of the selfish nature of man, has tendency to grasp, his wholehearted attention to his limited being. This was called nephesh by the Hebrews, psyche by the Greeks—the animal soul, which has the function of drawing spirit to matter, but when it exceeds its function, bad spirits are attracted psychically.

When we turn to the stories of the witches and magicians of the past, we find them in caves and chasms where gases pour from the bowels of the earth. It is these gases where the malignant psychic entities reside, and when they are created within the human structure, these elementals are also attracted, so that a person sometimes shows some resemblances to those persons who practice the lower forms of psychism, but is generally unaware that his body is already a corpse consumed by monsters not of this world.

In the person subject to alcoholic intoxication, we find psychic forces enjoying the dregs of physical existence through his psychic and vital bodies. Yet these entities do not always control him until he is entirely a victim to his craving; they do not feed upon his substance except when he opens the door. But when auto-intoxication progresses to an advanced stage, there are pollutions worse than that of alcohol and the body may became controlled by extra-physical destructive forces.

These entities, or the entity, lives upon the dead tissue and poison gases and produces from them the physical counterpart of his psychic nature. The blood, which is the vehicle for life-force becomes the path of journey. Being similar to a vegetable, growing like a parasitic plant, chemically opposite and vitally opposite to the human polarization of subtle magnetism, sooner or later the patient’s psychic body becomes depolarized and he loses his ability to combat disease.

Then we see these people becoming negative toward the world, often showing laxity in judgment or moral control. They are psychically negative and unable to benefit from the spiritual solar magnetism, which is the great medicine God has given to man.

Proper instruction in breathing, diet and habitat would go a long way to prevent and correct evil. Agni Yoga itself as well as other teachings will interest people more and more in the importance of the pranic activity in life, revealing how interference with it is interference with life itself so far as this plane is concerned.

The diet for such persons should include foods containing the solar magnetism. Nothing is more beneficial than fresh fruits and the leafy vegetables grown about the ground. Much of the knowledge of vitamins is psychic rather than physical although this has not been noticed as yet. There are forces in foods which have effects upon the more subtle bodies as well as upon the organ of gross flesh, but in general it may be said that for cancer patients it is wise to give as large a proportion of comestibles containing the solar magnetism, as is possible.

For that reason hospitals and sanitariums should be located not only where such foods are easily available, but also where there is a psychically purified atmosphere. The absence of cancer in certain portions of Kashmir and elsewhere is due to a great extent to its having been a holy land. The meditations of many saints and sages of the past purified the region and made it impossible for malignant entities to approach.

From the physical point of view this has resulted in other physical diseases from the same apparent causes, some of which are common in India, but the nature of which is not particularly psychic, at least not in the sense cancer is psychic as well as physical. The practice of meditation early in life by any person sets up a counter-movement in the breath, opposite to the grasping type, the ego-centric sea monster, which lives for itself alone. The nature of love itself in any form tends to destroy the sway of the ego and this is of the greatest benefit. There is no greater health rule than “Love ye one another.”

At Urusvati it will be possible to unite not only the knowledge of the East and West, but to link the wisdom of the past with the science of the present. Many a lowly herb contains much radiant energy, latent power which can purify the body of man or animal. There is no disease which has been inflicted upon humanity which humanity has not the ability to counteract and cure, only to intellect must be added intuition and to intuition, that love which is the natural tendency of the heart.

The purified heart will purify the breath and the nerves, the physical and the psychic instruments of man, and then not only cancer but all disease will be a sign of ignorance, sin, or carelessness on the part of the victim.
